The study of the Traditional Martial Arts is one of the few activities that bring together the energy of both the mind and the body. Our mission at Guardian Self-Defense  is to bring those energies together in a safe and fun environment. Our professionally trained and highly qualified staff provides the ultimate Martial Arts learning experience to our students. 

 

Practice of the Traditional Martial Arts at one of Guardian Self-Defense will enable an individual to focus and concentrate on achieving worthwhile goals and greatly enhance their ability to meet life's challenges with total confidence and perseverance. Our schools offer a variety of Martial Arts programs for all ages;

 

Our Children’s and Young Adult’s Programs;

 

Our youth programs are uniquely different from most karate schools because we teach "essential real life" self defense tactics and techniques.

 

A 1985 Carleton University study, published in Psychology Today (January 1985), reported that children studying Traditional Martial Arts had lower levels of aggressive behavior, a higher sense of self-esteem, and an increased sense of responsibility.

 

The study holds that elements present in traditional approaches to martial arts training (meditation, philosophy, emphasis on kata (forms), etc., but absent in modern eclectic styles, fosters moral behavior and the development of social responsibility in children

 

Our Knee-High Samurai program for children ages 4-7, uses confidence-building exercises to help develop hand-eye coordination and motor skills. Through our philosophy of positive reinforcement, and the interaction with Instructors and other children, your child will develop the security and confidence to accept separation from you, be more focused and attentive, and ready for the upcoming road ahead in school. .

 

Our Junior Program for ages 8-12 is focused on the physical, emotional and mental well-being, as well as education of our children. Our national recognized children's program uses interesting and enjoyable methods to keep the student's attention and teach our young students skills that they can use for life. We promote non-violent resolutions to conflict. More than any other sport, Karate gives our children the chance to explore their innate powers. Marvel as they increase in strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, and harmony. This is only the start. Physical skills act as a foundation for something much more important: the development of value skills, both mental and emotional. .

Our Adult Program is designed to bring out the very best in you. No matter what your age, you can benefit from our programs to fit any physical conditions or concerns you may have. Our program is a total fitness package combining strength, endurance, flexibility, balance and improved judgment skills that have benefited our thousands of adult students in all walks of life.

Our Karate Program;

 

In 1609, the Shimazu clan of Japan conquered the Okinawa prefecture.  They then prohibited the use of weapons, so the people of Okinawa developed hand-to-hand fighting techniques.  This is the origin of Karate.  In 1922, Karate was first introduced to the main island of Japan by Gichin Funakoshi (the father of modern Karate).  Since then, Karate has spread into many different styles with an accompanying development of skills and knowledge.  As the basic principles of Karate are universal.1

 

Karate is the art of attack and defense with thrusts, strikes, blocks and kicks.  Karate consists of these skills combined with moral, mental and physical discipline.2

Our Jujutsu and Ground Fighting Program;

 

Jujutsu is the Japanese art of attack and defense against an armed or unarmed opponent by grasping or striking so that the opponent's own strength and weight are used against him.

 

Modern Jujutsu combines both physical and mental education.  Through the practice of Jujutsu, one learns skill, knowledge, and self-discipline while enjoying oneself.  This develops a harmonious relationship between the phusicall and mental being, thus contributing to an individual's successful participation in society and his general education.1

 

Jujutsu is the mother of martial arts; the student learns all techniques: throwing, holding, the taking of joints, choking, striking, thrusting, blocking, kicking and forms, including how to defend yourself from muggers.  Read More.......

  

Our Self-defense Program;


Each comprehensive 6-week program focuses on practical modern day self defense tactics.

Our Self Defense programs provide fundamental and practical lessons in basic self defense. The program is designed to educate the common citizen to increase his or her abilities and confidence to become more aware, alert, and able to defend against common physical attacks. Let us help you prepare for any encounters you may have. 

Our self defense programs offer training in traditional martial arts along with grappling and other practical fighting techniques. Classes are taught in 6 week courses that are 1 hour each. Our self defense classes are taught in different levels catering to all abilities from beginner to advanced.

 

We encourage Men and women of all ages to come and take a free lesson.  The American Psychological Association reports 1 in 3 adult women experience at least one physical assault in their adulthood.  4 out of 10 cases of physical violence reported to the Department of Justice involve MEN as victims
